Gaseous fire suppression systems

Chubb gaseous systems are engineered to quickly suppress commercial or industrial fires.

Gaseous systems discharge a clear, colourless and odourless agent that quickly evaporates. They are are ideally suited to areas where sensitive equipment is located such as computer server rooms, data centres, hospitals, medical centres, power plants, switchrooms, financial institutions and aviation and military facilities. See our range of gaseous fire suppression systems below.

FM200™ systems

FM-200™ is a compact and highly effective fire suppression system for the protection of your critical facilities and assets.

Suited to Class A, B and C fires, the FM-200™ system features rapid discharge capabilities to control fires in a matter of seconds, helping to prevent significant damage to property.

What’s more, FM-200™ is a clean agent, which means it doesn’t leave any residue behind that can cause collateral damage to the assets and equipment you are trying to protect.

3M Novec™ 1230 systems

3M Novec™ 1230 fire protection fluid is stored as a liquid and discharged into the protected space as a gas. 3M Novec™ 1230 systems are compact and offer space savings benefits. They put fires out quickly by a combination of heat absorption and chemical interference with the flame. Novec™ 1230 can be used in occupied spaces and this system does not leave any residue behind, so there is no need for costly clean-up operations.

3M Novec 1230 Fluid presents distinct environmental benefits, including a zero Ozone Depletion Factor (ODP) and the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) of a chemical based clean agent, key to satisfying demands of environmentally sensitive markets and end-users. It is listed for hazard temperatures between -17.8°C and 55.6°C.

Inert gas systems

Inert gases are naturally occurring environmentally neutral gases. They extinguish fire by reducing the oxygen level below that which will sustain combustion. Inert gases can be used in occupied spaces and do not leave any residue behind, so there is no need for costly clean-up operations. Chubb can service Argonite, Argon and Inergen inert gases fire suppression systems.

Argonite

Argonite is an inert gas that offers effective fire protection with zero environmental impact. It is a simple blend of 50% Argon gas and 50% Nitrogen gas with a density similar to that of air. Both Argon and Nitrogen are clean, natural gases that are readily available throughout the world. Argonite is safe and effective for use on many applications—it is well suited for leaky enclosures such as substations and control rooms and for application with multiple hazards.

Benefits:

  • Argonite has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and zero Global Warming Potential (GWP)
  • No secondary products of combustion when exposed to flame
  • Cost effective
  • Capable of remote cylinder location from hazard

Technical Specifications:

  • Cylinder pressure at 200 or 300 Bar
  • Can be used to extinguish Class A, Class B or Class C fires
  • Listed and approved for use with selector valves
  • Protection for enclosures with temperatures from-20°C to 50°C

CO2 fire suppression systems

Carbon dioxide is a naturally occurring gas which extinguishes fire by cooling and reducing the oxygen level below that which will sustain combustion. It has zero ozone depletion potential and is effective on deep seated fires or local application requirements. Carbon dioxide should be used in unoccupied spaces and does not leave any residue behind, so there is no need for costly clean-up operations.

The Chubb Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppression System is an engineered system available in three application configurations: total flooding (for unoccupied areas), local application or hand-hose line. The system includes detectors, a control unit, agent storage cylinders, piping and discharge nozzles. Gaseous carbon dioxide rapidly suppresses fire by a combination of cooling and oxygen displacement. Discharge duration and agent flow rates are customized for the individual application.

Features:

  • Proven quality and reliability.
  • An inexpensive and easy-to-access agent when refill is necessary.
  • Wide ranges of proven safe, hazard protection.

Technical Specifications:

  • Reduces the oxygen content of the atmosphere to a point where combustion becomes impossible.
  • Hardware to accommodate any application and system types.
  • Offered in 25lbs, 50lbs, 75lbs and 100lbs cylinders
  • Directional valve system options
  • Lockout valves and lockout circuits

Room integrity testing for gaseous fixed fire suppression systems

Testing the 'integrity' of a room is vital to ensure the protected area is well sealed and the gaseous extinguishing agent won't escape. All gas systems rely on the correct concentration of gas, therefore it is important that the room protected can hold the correct amount of gas for a minimum number of minutes or more to prevent re-ignition. By carrying out a room fan test the integrity of the system and room can be proven.
