Chubb Community Care, has won a contract with Places for People, one of the largest property and leisure management, development and regeneration companies in the UK. Chubb is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Chubb has installed CareUnity®, a Technology Enabled Care Solution (TECS), at 16 of Places for People’s services for later life schemes across the North West, Hull and Bristol. The solution is a carephone-based system that comprises dispersed alarm units and portable pendant triggers. It is designed to keep customers safe and alert staff to those who may be in danger. It works by providing the customer with an ‘I’m OK’ button which they can press at a pre-agreed time each day. If it isn’t pressed at the set time, a non-activity alert is triggered.

Helen Leach, assistive technology officer at Places for People, said: “The system is very easy to use and provides confidence and peace of mind to our customers. We met with Chubb regularly before, during and after installation, and the engineers were friendly, patient and professional. The system is currently running well.”

Chubb surveyed each site prior to installation so it obtained a clearer idea of the specific requirements and needs, which vary from site-to-site. Its engineers are on call 24/7 to provide on-site maintenance, including the provision of replacement parts.

“The solution helps us to provide a safe environment for customers so that they can live independently within their homes,” Helen continued.

CareUnity® can monitor more than 40 different kinds of homecare alert devices. Designed with ease of use in mind. When an alarm on the carephone unit or any of the connected devices is triggered, an alert is sent to a control centre or emergency contact, and the appropriate response is delivered.

Key features include high-clarity, hands-free speech for clear and easy communication; multiple emergency number storage allowing direct connections to control centres, landlines and mobile telephones; simple use and set up; and, compatibility with all monitoring centre equipment.
