The competition was open to all Scout, Beaver and Cub groups across the U.K. as part of Chubb’s ongoing support for The Scout Association and its commitment to promoting fire safety among young people. Chubb received more than 70 entries, with each entrant submitting a design on the theme of “how to make sure you and your family are safe from fire at Christmas.”

In recognition of the 36th Walsall 1st Aldridge Beaver Group’s winning entry, Jane Garland, Marketing Communications Manager at Chubb, presented the group with a check for £300 to be put toward an outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by the whole group. Two runner-up groups, the 16th Wellingborough Cubs and the 2nd Brentwood Beaver Scouts, also received a prize of £100. All three designs will be used on Chubb’s Christmas e-card that is sent to customers across the UK.

Jane Edgar-Lane, leader of the 36th Walsall 1st Aldridge Beaver Group, stressed the importance of the Beaver group working as a team and is looking forward to spending the prize money at an outdoor activity center. “The boys worked together to make their Christmas cards and incorporated all of their designs to create the winning entry,” she said. “We are delighted to be chosen as winners out of 70 entries and are so proud of the boys. They were just over the moon when we told them.”
Garland said the judges were impressed by the quality of this year’s entries, which reinforce the safety messages built into the Chubb Fire Safety Badge. “It is encouraging to see so many young people participating in the badge while also demonstrating such creativity,” she said. “It is our hope that the knowledge they take away from these activities will help keep them and their families safe from fire for many years to come.”

Since the launch of the Chubb Fire Safety Badge in 2003, more than 100,000 Scouts have received it, making it one of the most popular of all Scouting badges. Chubb’s partnership with The Scout Association provides educational literature and posters to more than 7,200 local Scout groups across the U.K. and practical support from the company’s nationwide network of offices and engineers.
